GDC Neeli Nallah Udhampur Celebrates International Girl Child Week 2024

To address the issue of declining Girl Child Sex ratio along with the related issues of empowerment of girls, GDC Neeli Nallah Udhampur celebrated International Girl Child Week 2024 from 2 nd Oct. to 11 th Oct. 2024 to further empower the strength, resilience, and potential of girls while simultaneously promoting their rights and opportunities. The whole event was celebrated under the able guidance of Principal of the College Prof. (Dr.) Seema Arora. The program initiated with her views on the importance of girl's education, their rights, and promoting gender equality. She commenced the celebration and expressed her views about multiple initiatives and campaigns implemented by the government for the betterment of the girls. Plans such as Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Post Office Term Deposit Plans, Balika Samriddhi Yojana etc. are there to fulfil the dreams of higher education and a prosperous career of a girl child. Prof. Shaista Yasmeen, Incharge of the programme, highlighted that girls should be treated equally and should get all the opportunities in our society for the welfare of the Nation as a whole. Multifarious activities were carried on in the college, like Oath taking ceremony, awareness through short film entitled “Komal” on child sexual abuse. An exhilarating Skit was dramatized on girl’s vision for the future, Yoga exercises were also performed to aware the students for healthy lifestyle. A poster making competition was also organized on the occasion of International Girl Child Day in which Ms. Madiha Mir, Ms. Tanaya Buthyal, and Anamika Sharma secured 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd position respectively. Students lauded slogans like “Don’t kill Girl in Womb when she might bring Country to Gloom”, “Don’t let their lives End before it even Begins”. The Principal, staff and students attended the programme with enthusiasm and ensured that the students would keep their words and their commitment for the survival, protection and empowerment of the girls. Prof. Shaista Yasmeen was the Convenor of the programme. Dr. Sunil Tanoch and Prof. Rekha Sharma were the members of organising committee.
